For the Playwrights workshop our first rehearsal pianist was Tom Fay, who often worked with Paul Gemignani. He and Paul were scheduled to work on the new Kander and Ebb musical, The Rink, the following season, starring Chita Rivera and Liza Minnelli. Once Sunday was scheduled for Broadway, Paul decided he would leave The Rink after it opened and work with us and would leave Tom Fay behind to become their conductor.

Gemignani brought his second pianist, Paul Ford, over to Sunday. Though Ford had toured with first-class productions and subbed on Broadway, this was his first time working on a new Broadway show. Paul grew up in Atlanta and moved to New York straight out of high school, and he had an encyclopedic knowledge of musical theater.
